waxing gibbous from the gambia

the blurb

These shots were taken in The Gambia with Stephen Bidwell. He is the resident astronomer at the Hotel Kairaba – a beautiful 5 star hotel on the west coast of Africa (so it beats a garden in ealing!). You can see him and read something of his story here. Anyway, at the end of his expert ‘guided tour of the gambian skies’, and as a bit of an experiment, we tried attaching my canon 400d to the end of his LX 200 10 inch Meade (we managed to connect them by improvising with my WO .8 focal reducer). It worked and while he focussed I pressed ‘click’. These (and the shots of saturn) are the results of that small anglo-gambian astronomical endeavour.
