the bottom plate now needs a way of ensuring that it ‘glides’ around rather than scrapes as it does at the moment.
so time for some ball bearings.
after a bit of internet searching, the easiest available to me were from rs components. ordered them easy enough but once they arrived it turned out they were useless! i should be a bit careful here, i’m sure rs components sell decent products and are a decent firm etc, and i couldn’t be bothered to ask for a refund which they may have been happy to give, and it’s probably the case that i was using them outside the proper operating load, or something. but basically they were hardly smooth! they are called ‘ball transfer units’. i don’t remember the details, but they were useless for what i was trying to achieve.
So, a disappointment.
back to the drawing board…
